Using Hobbies to Find Self Love

Recently, I came to the realization that I have been really just going through the motions of life. I know what it feels like to be living and lately I just haven’t been doing that. I decided to stop waiting for life to come to me and hoping for something exciting and I let go. I have made it my personal mission to do something everyday that makes me uncomfortable or forces me onto a new, unknown path.

Being from Texas, I have always had an appreciation for country dancing– especially the famous Texas Two-Step. There is something magical to me personally about letting go of troublesome thoughts and allowing your dance partner to move you across the floor. It is so much fun, great exercise, and sets my soul on fire.

I try to go at least once a week to my local dance hall (they give free lessons almost every day of the week) and always end up staying way later than anticipated just dancing the night away with individuals with the same passion.

Finding this hobby really helped me discover a part of who I am. I read in a book and have seen in the media how important it is to have hobbies in your life, or as one youtuber has called them: non-negotiables. Finding hobbies that you enjoy and not letting other people come before them is truly a great act of self-love. It is a way to make sure your own needs get met.
